National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA)

Under the provisions of the Architects Act, 1972 the Council of Architecture is required to prescribe the Minimum Standards of Architectural Education for imparting 5-year undergraduate degree course in Architecture (i.e. Bachelor of Architecture degree course) and also monitor the compliance of the same by the approved Architectural Institutions all over the country for award of recognized qualifications under the Act. There are two exams for getting into architectural education in India. NATA and JEE (Paper2).

NATA 2019 or National Aptitude Test in Architecture 2019 is a national-level entrance test held annually serving as a platform to test candidates' aptitude and provide them admissions to the 5-year B.Arch. Degree program. NATA is facilitated by the Council of Architecture since 2006. Candidates, who have qualified their 10+2 examination, are eligible to take admission through NATA.   • NATA 2019 is expected to be held in April, 2019, the official notification for which will be announced in December 2018.
  • Directoralso announced that there will be two attempts of NATA.these condattempt will beheldin July 2019.
  • Candidates can fill NATA Application Form 2019 through the online modeonly tentatively from January 2019.
  • NATA Admit Card 2019 will be available for download from the official website tentatively in March 2019.

  • Candidates are tested on General Aptitude, Mathematics, and Drawing Skills.
  • NATA Score is valid for 2-years from the year in which one appeared.

The NATA measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability that have been acquired over a long period of time and that are related to specific field of study, i.e. Architecture.

The eligibility criteria for appearingin NATAexamis same for allthe students there isnorelaxationfor ST\SC\OBC

  • Background:The candidate must have either passed/appearing (1) 10+2 with mathematics as core subject or equivalent exam (2) 10+3 diploma (any stream) with mathematics as core subject, candidates who after completing the 10th exam, have appeared for\completed IB diploma with mathematics as a core subject or students who have cleared SSC exam and hold an international Baccalaureate diploma or are appearing are also eligible to apply.
  • Minimummarks: The candidate must have scored minimum 50% marks with mathematics as a compulsory subject
  • Age Limit: The candidate must be minimum 17 years of age as on July 31, 2019.
  • There is no lateral admission criterion for admission in any stage\year of B.Arch. course.

It must be clarified here that meeting the eligibility criteria is only the first stage of the admission process, as the candidate has to next qualify in NATA 2019 entrance exam. Admission to B.Arch. course will then be based on NATA scores

  • JEE Main B.Arch (Paper 2) Joint Entrance Exam for Bachelor in Architecture is conducted to measure the aptitude of the applicant for admission to Undergraduate Architecture Programs at NITs, IITs, Other centrally funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by several participating State Governments & several other Institutions.
  • JEE Main B.Arch (Paper 2) - Joint Entrance Exam for Bachelor in Architecture is generally conducted in the month of April every year. JEE Main B.Arch (Paper 2) was earlier known as AIEEE ( B.Arch )
  • Architecture Admissions in IITs: B.Arch in IIT Kharagpur or IIT Roorkee
  • AAT – Architecture Aptitude Test is an entrance test conducted by IIT for admission to 5 year B.Arch course at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Roorkee. Candidates who qualied JEE Advanced are eligible to appear in AAT.
  • This implies that a candidate desirous of taking admission in 5 year B.Arch programme at IIT need to clear three entrance exams: JEE Mains , JEE Advanced and AAT.
  • The entrance test consists of one paper of three hour duration. The cut-off marks for passing AAT is decided by Joint Implementation Committee of JEE Advanced.
  • Candidates should have obtained a valid score in both: the qualifying exam and NATA 2019. Candidates' total score will be assessed by taking 50% marks from 10+2 or any other equivalent examination with Mathematics as a compulsory subject and 50% marks secured in NATA 2019.
  • NATA 2019 Score Card is considered valid only when candidates have secured minimum 25% marks in MCQ portion (30 out of 120) & 25% marks in drawing portion. (20 out of 80)
  • NATA 2019 scorecard is valid for the academic year 2019-20 and Overall qualifying aggregate marks (out of 200) would be based on post-exam statistics and at the discretion of the Council of Architecture.
